Joanna Schmitt (17-1)

Board of Directors: Director of Specialty Clinics

Joanna Schmitt grew up with 6 brothers and sisters in a small town in southern Wisconsin. She spent much of her childhood playing basketball and numerous other sports.

With much hard work, Joanna earned a full volleyball scholarship to the University of Oklahoma in 2003. During her career as a Sooner she became the first freshman to record 500 kills and 300 digs in a single season, named First Team All-Big XII, and also All-Region. In 2006, she helped lead her team to the best season in school history and finished her collegiate career as an NCAA All-American. In addition, Joanna was a team-captain all four years at Oklahoma and in 2005 was invited to compete oversees in Argentina along with other talented players across the United States.

During her summers as a student-athlete, Joanna coached alongside Oklahoma Head Volleyball Coach Santiago Restrepo at his camps in Norman and St. Louis, Missouri. Upon completion of her eligibility she began coaching club for the former Sooner VBC and in 2007-8 for Oklahoma Elite VBC. For the past few years she has been privately training and consulting players in order to improve their technique and overall skills. She enjoys building relationships with her players and loves to see them grow and succeed.

Last season, Joanna conducted the Specialty Hitting Clinics at Charge, in which there was an overwhelming positive response from the players and parents due to the noted improvement in the technique of the players.

“Working with a great group of athletes at Charge last year was a pleasure, and I can’t wait to be a part of the coaching staff. I really saw a positive attitude and a desire to learn from the players,”  As a coach, I hope to give every athlete the tools necessary to be a great player and person.” –Joanna Schmitt

“Joanna is a great coach and brings a great perspective to the game. We are very glad to have her as part of the Charge Family.” -Ryan Webber, Director of Coaching.
